Hello all,**
As you may know,** I have been experimenting with creating private matches/practice sessions using CS2 dedicated servers**.** After spending some time playing on them I was able to compare them with the current matchmaking servers and noticed a few differences that I thought might be helpful to others in this area.**
Below** is a summary of my findings:**
**
Dedicated Servers are not the same as Matchmaking Servers (VAC status, server commands/lobby behavior).
**
Some of the configuration files that worked locally for me, do not work correctly when my friends tried to join.
In** CS2 it seems there is more sensitivity around server launch and port parameters compared to CSGO.**
Prior** to configuring my servers, I tried to understand how CS2 dedicated servers function (what is considered VAC secure, what is and isn**'**t safe for private use, etc). The following breakdown will hopefully assist you in better understanding how to avoid common pitfalls when configuring your server.
**
I am not** posting this as an advertisement, but instead as a resource for your reference to assist in understanding some basic aspects of how the official servers operate and what common mistakes you might make while configuring your server.**
To** those of you who have already hosted your own CS2 server:**
What** Configurations Did You Find You Should Avoid **Using?
Did** You See Any Differences Between Windows and Linux Dedicated Servers?**
Was** There Any Change Made By Valve To The CSGO Methods That You Weren’t Aware Of When Setting Up Your Dedicated Server?**
Just curious** to hear from everyone about their experiences.
